Why I no longer compete in Karate tournaments is another story, but staying competitive in something that keeps you motivated, in shape, and on your toes is important. Every year, I usually sit down and go over some things that I would like to accomplish the following year. And, these aren't business goals, rather personal goals or bucket list goals. Last year, laying in bed before going to sleep I told my wife that I wanted to go for a Spartan Trifecta. She thought I was crazy, but she was very supportive of it. For those of you that may not know, Spartan Race puts on obstacle course races throughout the world, trying to help individuals test their limits and boundaries and find out who they really are at the finish line. Since 2012 clients and fitness coaches at Summit Fit Dojo (our Group Personal Training program) have been attending and running in Spartan Races in Ft. Carson, Colorado. This is a great way for our clients to set goals, achieve them, and have fun as a group. Spartan Race has 3 types of distances they put on throughout, North America and other major continents around the globe. There is a Spartan Sprint which is 3+ miles with about 15 obstacles, a Spartan Super which is 8+ miles and 20 obstacles, and a Spartan Beast which is 12+ miles and 25 obstacles. To make things even more challenging, if you are not able to go through an obstacle, there is a 30 burpee penalty one has to do. So, it's in your best interest to go through as many obstacles as you can... at all cost. In order to achieve the coveted Spartan Trifecta Medal, one needs to do all 3 races in one calendar year. I already did my Spartan Sprint in May at the Ft. Carson Army Base, and I now have my Spartan Super and Spartan Beast, which will be back-to-back weekends this month. I will be going to Killington, VT to do my Spartan Beast on Thursday, September 18th and coming back on Sunday. Then flying out to Chicago, IL to do my Spartan Super on Friday, September 26th and coming back on Sunday.
