Belt Test

So today we had our first belt test.  It was actually really exciting too!  There were 13 total that tested for the Gold Belt, and everyone did AWESOME! Before the test, I prepped them a bit so that they would feel comfortable.  I wanted them to succeed, obviously, so I just told them it's like any other class we take during the week... but with grades. I also let them know that this is the first step to becoming a Black Belt, and that I would love to see EVERY single one of them test for their Black Belt at The Dojo of Karate.  Since they were basically my first students who enrolled, I really want to see these guys stick around for the long haul - 3 years.  I think they can all do it, but it's going to take a lot of dedication. Anyways, the format was pretty simple.  We just did some basics, such as kicks, punches, and blocks.  We than moved on to stance drills.  From there they did their Kata (form) individually - and everyone memorized it just fine.  To finish off the test we did Kiso Katas (partner forms). For this being my first test conducted solely by myself - I forgot a few things, but I saw enough to see that they did very well. I ended up telling everyone that they passed, but would not be handing out belts until Saturday or early next week.  So, I'm sure that Saturday's class will be somewhat packed. Anyways, I need to print out a Certificate of Rank for everyone too. It's crazy... I never thought this day would come...  :-) Now, my next goal is to enroll at least 10 students this month.  I think it'll be VERY doable too. Later
