First Basic Kata

White Belt Form

Notes: All stances are ‘Front Stances’.  Bend your front knee, keep your back leg straight.  Back hand (non punching or blocking hand) is always chambered into your arm pit – elbow pointing back.

1.    Set to the left, through a low block w/the left-hand, move the left-foot.
2.    Step forward w/right foot, punch w/right hand.
3.    Step behind w/ right foot, turn 180 degrees, low block w/right hand.
4.    Step forward w/left foot, punch w/left hand.
5.    Set front foot (left foot) over 90 degrees (towards front of room), low block w/left hand.
6.    Step forward w/right foot, high block w/right hand.
7.    Step forward w/left foot, high block w/left hand.
8.    Step forward w/right foot, high block w/right hand.
9.    BIG TURN… Back foot (left foot) sets behind you 270 degrees (3/4 of full circle), turn low block w/left hand.
10.    Step forward w/right foot, punch w/right hand
11.    Step behind w/ right foot, turn 180 degrees, low block w/right hand
12.    Step forward w/left foot, punch w/left hand
13.    Set front foot (left foot) over 90 degrees (towards back of room), low block w/left hand
14.    Step forward w/right foot, punch w/right hand
15.    Step forward w/left foot, punch w/left hand
16.    Step forward w/right foot, punch w/right hand
17.    BIG TURN… Back foot (left foot) sets behind you 270 degrees (3/4 of full circle), turn low block w/left hand
18.    Step forward w/right foot, punch w/right hand
19.    Step behind w/ right foot, turn 180 degrees, low block w/right hand
20.    Step forward w/left foot, punch w/left hand
21.    Pull back to ‘ready stance’ facing the front of the room

You’re Done!!

As you may be noticing, First Basic Kata is a 20 move kata (form) which typically repeats itself with most moves.  This is the foundation of the remainder katas you will learn at The Dojo of Karate.
