Grand Opening Day

It’s been awhile since I last posted on my blog, and I’m sorry if you have been checking back for new content… but now that things are finally starting to smooth out, you can expect to see read about the progress I have been making.

Where do I start…  As many of you know, The Dojo of Karate opened on August 11th 2008, and had about 6 students present for the first day of class.  The week of my Grand Opening Day, my dad flew out early to help get the school ready for my Open House.  I can not express how much his work, contribution and support meant to me.  The fact that he took some time off of his busy schedule for this special day speaks volume.  But he even helped with some of the nitty gritty, like cleaning, organizing, and other things that parents always do.  I ended up taking Thursday off so I can help with different projects around the school and going out to buy some supplies.  When Saturday morning rolled by, I think I put in about 24 hours of work, including my full time job.  Needless to say, I was exhausted…

Anyways, Saturday was great!  My friends from Denver Karate Academy brought their Karate Demo Team to entertain the crowd give a great performance of their skills and students.  Many of my friends that showed up were excited to watch the demonstration, but more importantly - impressed of how much one can do with martial arts.  It’s not just kicks and punches… there’s more to it.

We also had hotdogs and hamburgers for everyone to eat while waiting for the demo.

Before I keep going forward, I just want to thank everyone that helped in all areas in getting my martial arts studio open.  Your help has not been overlooked, and you know who I am talking about.

There were potentially 4 to 5 new prospects that I was able to get their interest and sign them up for Karate lessons soon, which makes my Grand Opening Day worth every penny spent.  Plus, I had some of my students come by to watch the All-Star Demo Team.  This was awesome for me because my students now have an idea what they can eventually become if they continue to work hard.

Otherwise, the entire day was fantastic.  My family and friends were apart of a dream that I’ve had since I was 14 years old.  I can’t explain the feeling I got when this day took place, other than it went better than I could have expected.  Martial arts has been a big part of my life.  It’s shaped my life since I was 10.  It has given me the confidence to achieve everything I put my mind to.  The only way I can think about repaying the art is by teaching my knowledge to other people who seek for ways to better their lives and learn life skills that typically can’t be taught in other sports or activities.
